Paper and Terra Cotta Beads Necklace

As I am writing my thesis.....I feel more and more creative. As a break, I rolled these white paper beads, and arranged them (in another break) in this beautiful 35 inch necklace. 

I am very proud of this one. 

The creative process continues.

Capullo de Seda Joyería

En mi última visita a Oaxaca encontré estos capullos de seda. Estaban hilados en un collar, pero no me gustó el collar mismo. Así es que decidí usarlos para otra cosa. Estuvieron en un cajón por casi un año. Hasta que se me ocurrió combinarlos con perlas cultivadas en un lazo de seda dorado. Las aplicaciones son de metal dorado. También les hice sus aretes para tener el juego completo. 

Aquí está el conjunto con los aretes. Capullos de seda con perlas cultivadas. 

I like to experiment with textures and materials. I found these silk cocoons in Oaxaca in my last trip. They were treaded into a necklace, but I did not like the necklace. The cocoons sat in my drawer for almost a year. I found this new use to them. 

Combined with freshwater white pearls, gold silk thread and little metallic golden beads.

Collar y Aretes de Papel de Algodón Pintado a Mano

Estos son los aretes. 

Y este el collar. Un nuevo experimento en papel pintado a mano. Cuentas de papel enrollado (pequeñas) junto con cuentas focales de papel redondo. El papel es hecho con algodón y pintado a mano.

These beads are made of recycled magazine paper, and glass black beads, with silver components.

One of my new creations. Black and golden-silver rolled paper earrings. Two conic beads, and two round beads. Combined with pewter findings. Very elegant.

Otra vez el barro y el papel. Las cuentas de papel están hechas con papel de algodón pintado a mano y enrollado. Las cuentas de barro son hechas por los artesanos de Atzompa, en Oaxaca.

Es increíble lo que se puede hacer con materiales que parecerían sencillos como el barro y el papel. Materiales que usamos en nuestra vida diaria y que pocas veces concebimos se pueden convertir en joyas para lucir. Este es un collar de cuentas de barro que traje de mi último viaje a Oaxaca, y lo combino con unas cuentas que hice de una revista reciclada. Las cuentas de papel tienen colores turquesa, rosa y azul que combinan perfectamente con el color tierra del barro cocido.

Aretes con cuentas de barro y papel. Las cuentas de papel son hechas a mano y las de barro son traídas de Atzompa, Oaxaca, en donde las hacen los artesanos del barro.

Those multi-color earrings came out beautifully from the cotton paper. They have copper wire, and metal findings.

Generally, artists do not think about those who do not want to use pierce earrings, or that do not have pierced ears. This is pair of earrings made of silk-screened cotton paper, and varnished for resistance to water. I enjoyed making them.

Made with columns from the NYT, pink quartz, pink freshwater pearls, and  tiny Czech beads.

This is certainly a conversation piece. 

For those days when nothing really gets accomplished, I take any material into my hands

and try to turn it into art. So far, it was worked out. I guess the best condition of the human being is creation! 

This is how the necklace looks like complete. I experience so much joy when a piece is completed, I feel 

a great sense of accomplishment. 

Collar de hilo de cobre con cuentas de papel reciclado (Joyas de Papel)

En lo que puede convertirse un viejo catálogo. En cuentas coloridas para este collar adornado con pequeñas cuentas de vidrio en color cobre, y con un broche de cobre también. 

Las cuentas se enrollan individualmente y se sellan con un barniz de base de agua. Los materiales son reciclados en su mayor parte. 

Beautiful Unfinished Paper Beads

This past few days I have been rolling beautiful cotton paper, the thrill about doing this

is that you know how the paper looks like, but you do not know how the beads will turn out. 

It is always very exciting to see nice beads coming from beautifully decorated paper. 

Red Paper Bead Necklace with Gold Pearls and Garnet

This is to be used in a happy day. A joy to make it, and a joy to wear it. Hand-made silk-screened cotton paper, rolled into beautiful beads accompanied by Czech crystals, gold pearls, and garnet stones that make the pearls look like flower centers. Longer than usual, and just beautiful. 

The Joy of Creative Work

This is a version of another necklace made with the same blue and golden paper than the previous one, but with smaller round beads, and lavender glass. I love the nice length that can be worn over a sweater, or a dress, or simply over whatever you like to highlight with this design. 

I included a brass clasp with a purple motif on it, to make it more elegant

The love of creative work

This necklace is so elegant that a is already taken by a good friend of mine. I just wanted to show the detail of the work. It made me very proud to see the results of the thicker beads, they look gorgeous and ready to roll. 

I heard that a jewel is not only something made of gold or precious stones, but also an object

that has been made with great dedication and love. I would say that this necklace was made with those two ingredients, beside the fresh water pearls, the copper bead caps, the czech crystals, and of course my precious hand-rolled beads, made with cotton silk-screened hand-made paper. See the beautiful results of the work and dedication to this jewel, and judge for yourself.

Gold paper beads and pearls

This is a beauty. It has two gold paper beads, and some baroque freshwater peacock pearls, combined with tiny gold-plated glass beads to complete the set. I design each of my pieces with beauty in mind. I like the story that materials tell, and the combination of media gives those pieces versatility. I also like to make my own beads by using organic materials, such as paper, which I recycle. 

Easy earrings (Aretes de papel rojos)

Estos aretes se me ocurrieron por unas cuentas que vi en Etsy. Eso sí, les puse mi toque personal. 

Los aretes están hechos de papel de algodón hecho a mano, y las cuentas también son hechas a mano (por mí), enrolladas hasta formar los conos. Después se les aplica una laca de agua que las protege de la humedad. Esos sí, no se pueden sumergir en el agua. Estos objetos son delicados, y para respetar el material del que están hechos, las lacas que se le ponen son a base de agua, no son sintéticas, así es que aguantan la lluvia, aguantan el sudor, pero no aguantan una sumergida en la alberca, o en la bañera, o bajo el grifo del agua.

Este collar está hecho a mano, cada cuenta está enrollada, pintada y laqueada individualmente. 

El collar se adorna con perlas doradas y cuentas de vidrio.
